It's the Delegates Stupid!

Since Obama has become the delegate leader, the non-stop Clinton or Obama madness began - or maybe more correctly, the Clinton Vs. Obama madness. Some calling on Hillary to drop out because of her hundred and forty some odd delegate needed to catch up, but Senator Clinton has made it demonstratively clear that she will be putting up quite a fight before she leaves Obama to fend off McCain in November.

Reading quite a bit of speculative journalism, I quickly became jaded with the usual media frenzies looking at everything except the issues.

In an attempt at oversimplifying the political process, much of the speculating is not looking at the actual political process, which uses pledged and super delegates that later convene at the convention. Little if any articles have attempted to make the process salient by treating all states as having a winner take all system. Most news narratives treat primaries as a epic battle where only one will leave standing, when in reality, even taking a relatively large margin of 10%, cannot lead to a significant change in the delegate totals. For instance in Pennsylvania, which has 188 delegates, even a 10% margin  (highly optimistic for even the strongest of hillary supporters) will not change things much, considering the most recent polls show HRC with a 5% lead ± 5 points. A victory of 10% would still only change Hillary's lead by around 30 delegates, and even then,  North Carolina is right around the corner with 134 delegates and Obama has what appears to be a steady 15% lead in recent polls. Even if Obama were to win with the most conservative of estimates based on the ±5 point margin of error assigned to most polls, then Obama would take 80 delegates to Hillary's 54, nearly making up for even a large win for Hillary in Pennsylvania. Still putting Senator Obama up with about a 130 delegate lead. Further, Pennsylvania and North Carolina are the last major states that have yet to have a primary. Leaving my home state of Oregon with a mere 3 million residents, compared to Pennsylvania's 11.2 million.

My point is that Hillary needs a chariot full of swift-boaters to rain down from the heavens in order to give her what looks to be a believable and satisfactory lead over Obama- which could happen.

It seems that the 24-hour news coverage this day in age, you would imagine that there would be in-depth examinations of possible delegate outcomes. Yet it is suspiciously convenient for the few major news companies to be perpetuating the infighting of a political party that opposes many of their more obvious agendas, such as net-neutrality, fewer privacy rights and well, our money - duh. Especially since there is a clear underdog, both in delegate totals and popular votes.

On a separate parting note, a strong condemnation is in order for ABC news who conducted a presidential debate with no true value.

I strongly urge all of you to send a quick email to ABC to share your outrage.

Vice President: Ha

Andy Borowitz over at the Huffington Post wrote a great article about HRC's presumptious statement about Senator Obama being a good vice presidential choice. Here is the video and the transcript of Obama's take on the situation. Dang is he a good speaker or what!

TRANSCRIPT-Barack Obama at Columbus, MS Town Hall [3/10/08]

I respect Senator Clinton. She was a friend of mine before this campaign. She”ll be a friend of mine after this campaign. Because we’re gonna have to unify together to win in November. But I do have to say I was listening to some of the things Senator Clinton said down here in Mississippi over the last couple of days.

So I am gonna have to say a little bit about it.

You know as I understand it. Both Senator Clinton and President Clinton repeatedly talked about how I would be a great Vice President. <inaudible> They kept on saying well you know he would be a fine Vice President. It would be a formidable team with Clinton at the top and Obama in second place.

Now first of all..with all due respect..with all due respect. I have won twice as many states as Senator Clinton. I have won more of the popular vote than Senator Clinton. I have more delegates than Senator Clinton. So I don’t know how somebody who is in second place is offering the Vice Presidency to the person who is in first place. I mean. I am just wondering. I am just wondering. If I was in second place I could understand it, but I am in first place right now. So that is point number one.

But there is another. There is a second point. This is an interesting point. I want you guys to follow me on this. President Bill Clinton back in 1992 when he was being asked about his selection for Vice President. He said the only criteria, the most important criteria for Vice President is that that person is ready if I fell out in the first week that he or she would be ready to be the Commander in Chief. That was his criteria.

Now they have been spending the last two, three weeks. Remember with that advertisement with the phone call. Telling everyone.. Getting all of Generals to say well we are not sure he is ready. “I am ready on day one”, “He may not be ready yet” But I don’t understand it. If I’m not ready how is it that you think I should be such a great Vice President. Do you understand that?

See I was trying to explain to somebody a while back.the okidoke. You all know the okidoke. When somebody is trying to bamboozle you, when they are trying to hoodwink you.

You.They are trying to hoodwink you.

You can’t say that he is not ready on day one unless he is willing to be your Vice President then he is ready on day one.

So look I just want everybody to be absolutely clear here, okay. I want everyone to be absolutely clear. We are in a tough battle and I don’t presume that I have won this election. Senator Clinton is fighting hard. She is tenacious. I respect her for that. She is working hard to win the nomination. But I want everybody to be absolutely clear.

I am not running for Vice President. I am running for President of the United States of America. I am running for President of the United States of America. I am running to be Commander in Chief. And the reason I am running to be Commander in Chief is because I believe that the most important thing when you answer that phone call at three in the morning is what kind of judgment do you have, not how long you have been in Washington, but what kind of judgment do you have when you are answering that phone.

And I believe that I have shown better judgment than Senator Clinton. I believe I offer a clean break from the policies of George Bush. Because Senator Clinton went along with George Bush on the war in Iraq. Senator Clinton went along with George Bush on her willingness to try to saber rattle when it came to Iran. She has gone along with many of the conventional ways of thinking about foreign policy that have gotten us into trouble. That is what I intend to change when I am President of the United States.

So I don’t want anybody here thinking that I that somehow well you know maybe I can get both. Don’t think that way. You have to make a choice in this election.

Are you gonna go along with the past or are you gonna go towards the future?

Are you gonna do the same old thing or are you gonna try something new?

I am not running for Vice President. I do not believe Senator Clinton is about change because in fact this kind of gamesmanship, talking about me as Vice President, but he maybe he’s not ready for Commander in Chief. That is exactly the kind of double speak, double talk that Washington is very good at. That people who spend a lot of time in Washington have a lot of experience at, but is not gonna solve the problems of the country.

Obama Camp Returns Fire Over "Darker Skin Ad"

In response to Hillary's recent ad that was intentionally edited to make Senator Obama appear darker, Senator Obama fired back.

Notice that not only is he darker, but his shirt is whiter, showing that contrast was also affected. There was also clever use of resizing the picture, which caused his face to be distorted to appear wider.

A great article appears over at the DailyKos.

Ms. Clinton is resorting to some rather startling tactics that I was certain wouldn't be used by other Democrats, but only by Republicans. I guess she turned desperate.

Today the Obama camp quickly fired back with a harsh anti-Hillary ad. In the ad, a young "valley girl" voice discusses the finer items of Hillary's designer wardrobe and mentions Hillary's favorite brands of baking sheets.

What we discovered here at The Radical Majority is something stunning. Apparently Obama's camp isn't the victim here, as they too seem to have doctored a photograph of Senator Clinton.

The ad shows Senator Clinton below, with an overlaid audio track and the usual text pointing out Senator Clinton's many inconsistencies with her record pertaining to NAFTA.

(Doctored Photo on Obama's Ad)

We went back to the archives, and found that this photo has indeed been doctored. Her usual pants suit was made to be hot pink and her highlights were heavily lightened.

If you haven't got it yet, this is a joke. Besides, Obama's peeps have much better Photoshop skills. But what isn't a joke, and hardly funny is the Clinton camp's use of racism to sway last minute voters. Even though the votes aren't all in, this may have worked, because right now Hillary has a 17% lead in Ohio, well above the latest polls, and just tied in Texas. We will see shortly, but we will never know the type of impact deceitful, psychological ads have on voters.
